Beware of the BMW X6’s odd proportions; once you’re in the driver’s seat, you’ll quickly forget about the fastback’s peculiar shape. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine produces 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The engine is fast and smooth when mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The higher ride of SUVs is one of the things we like about them, and the 8.5 inches of ground clearance on the X6 is more than enough to provide the driver a commanding outlook. The X6 M Competition’s as-tested pricing of $132,745 seems to be fair. After all, this is the most powerful BMW SUV on the market right now, along with the X5 M Competition.
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S is a formidable opponent for the X6 M, and Mercedes and BMW have always been fierce rivals. This GLE’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine produces 627 pound-feet of torque and 603 horsepower. The EQ mild-hybrid system from Mercedes stands out because it contains an electric motor that produces 21 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. In addition to raising its go-fast stats, it has the ability to turn off the engine and cruise only on electric boost.
Despite having one more gear than the BMW, this Mercedes does not appear to be moving as quickly. Although the Mercedes is gorgeous from every perspective, it lacks the swagger of its Munich rival. The as-tested price of $133,075 for the Mercedes is the same as the price for the BMW.
This duo is attempting to impress despite having different characteristics. Rarely do we see two opponents in the ring who are so evenly matched.

On one of the greatest highways in the world, the majestic Angeles Crest Highway, this combat took place. Everyone who enjoys driving will enjoy its winding roads and abrupt climbs and descents.
The X6 M has shown that it enjoys its task. It doesn’t get tired and continues tugging. Christian Seabaugh, the features editor, hailed it as being “large, muscular, and robust.” The ride is smooth, it doesn’t feel heavy, and it likes to lean into bends without hesitation. Its punch makes you forget its size. However, if you are driving on a cracked road, vertical vibrations will happen.
Although the ride isn’t as harsh as earlier M SUVs (think X3), riders may be startled by road vibrations. Thankfully, the driver may alter the steering, braking, and chassis responses to suit their preferences. The suspension option of Comfort and the engine setting of Sport Plus were favoured by the majority of assessors, and both considerably improved the ride quality.
Contrarily, the AMG makes me think of the GT R that we just drove on the same routes. The BMW, however, never gives up; its engine ran flawlessly and gave the driver the essential punch when needed.
Last but not least, opinions on how the AMG handled the situation differed. While some people admired the engine’s sportiness, others felt that it lacked sufficient boost. Although accurate, it was commonly acknowledged that the steering offered minimal input.

Interior
Each SUV’s interior has a unique charm that matches its outside. Unlike the BMW, which has bucket seats and M emblems on the shifter, steering wheel, seatbacks, and center console, the Mercedes has a big display, subtle buttons, and a very clean appearance. The inside of the GLE seems to be the same as the interior of the ordinary GLE, notwithstanding the AMG emblem on the steering wheel.
Although the flow of both designs is good, the Mercedes seems more opulent than the BMW. Its arrangement is intricate without being too so, and everything seems to be where it should be. Since the touchpad controls require you to go through menus in order to use the infotainment system, we don’t like them. While soft materials are used extensively throughout the design to give the impression that you are driving a vehicle worth more than $100,000, the overall aesthetic is luxurious and sumptuous.
The GLE’s touchpad is more difficult to operate than BMW’s most recent iDrive system due to reduced menus and simpler access. Simply connect your phone to wireless Apple CarPlay once, and it will automatically reconnect each time you start the car. The GLE 63 S scores higher than the Mercedes because it supports Android Auto, whilst the Mercedes does not, even if the Mercedes needs a cable to utilize CarPlay. (BMW will start integrating Android Auto into its cars this summer.)
Similar to the GLE, the X6 gives you the impression that you are entering a distinct location. Depending on the color scheme, the X6 delivers a unique experience, particularly if you choose the elegant eggplant-colored Ametrin Metallic paint for the outside.
Both SUVs seem rather roomy and have plenty of head and legroom. Although the “coupe” style of the BMW may restrict headroom, the designers made sure there was still adequate room for tall people. The BMW’s coupe design contributes to the feeling of space, and the X6 can accommodate a lot of additional items, particularly long items, when the seats are folded flat. Despite having excellent luggage space, the GLE’s interior does not seem to be as roomy as the BMW’s.
Verdict
We finally choose a winner in our comparisons, just as in baseball. Fortunately, there was no need for extra innings since the BMW X6 M Competition won handily. The X6 seemed at home on winding roads because to its powerful engine, agile handling, and exceptional balance. It combined a go-fast feeling with a hint of comfort when driving on the freeway or in city traffic.
Some of us believed the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S lacked the buzz, despite the fact that it is also a great vehicle.
