The fact that the 2022 Ram 2500 and 3500 are capable of carrying capacities comparable to those of semi-trucks and are also intended to provide passengers with unrivaled levels of luxury distinguishes them as worthy recipients of the Editors' Choice award. There is no other heavy-duty vehicle on the market that can compete with the Rams when it comes to the combination of a smooth ride and luxurious interior elements. On the other hand, the Ram HD family does not disregard its beginnings in any way. There is a model that can accommodate almost any budget and work description, whether it be the numerous trim levels and body designs or the various powertrains, which can range from a 410-horsepower Hemi V-8 to a Cummins diesel engine with up to 1075 pound-feet of torque. This is because there are several different trim levels and body designs available.

New for the year 2022

Starting in 2022, each Ram 2500 will come standard with the latest version of the company’s infotainment software, which is billed as being able to react more quickly and provide more up-to-date material. The Silver Edition is offered in both the Lone Star and the Big Horn trim levels, and it distinguishes itself from the standard model by including a lot of chrome accents on the outside and black detailing inside.

The Lone Star and the Big Horn now come with a selection of all new grille patterns to choose from. The Power Wagon has an optional Level 3 Equipment package that can be upgraded to include an unique grille, black headlamp surrounds, a 12.0-inch touchscreen with 750 watts of sound from Harman Kardon, an electronic transfer case, and finer materials for the inside. There is now a Tow mode available on the rearview mirror camera, which provides a view behind the trailer. Additionally, the 360-degree camera is no longer available.

Overview

Payload Capacity

Because to the high-output Cummins engine that produces 1075 pound-feet of torque, a Ram 2500 has the potential to pull a trailer weighing up to 37,090 pounds and can carry a maximum payload of 7680 pounds. When equipped with such engine, the more typical 2500 4×4 Crew Cab model has a maximum payload capacity of 2380 pounds, and it has a maximum trailer-weight rating of 19,010 pounds. Those are outstanding numbers for the class as a whole. When equipped with the 370 horsepower Cummins engine, the Cummins 2500 4×4 Crew Cab has the ability to transport 3,240 pounds and tow 16,870 pounds. Towing capacity of 14,370 pounds and payload capacity of 3,240 pounds with the standard V-8 engine is more than sufficient for the majority of work and recreational activities, respectively.

Transmission and the Engine | There is a choice of three different engines. Every configuration is equipped with a 6.4-liter V-8 engine that generates 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque as standard. It is combined with a remarkable automated gearbox that has eight different gears. This engine and gearbox combination is the only one that can be used in the Power Wagon, which can only be ordered with four-wheel drive. On the other hand, every other model may be purchased with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six engine and either rear- or four-wheel drive depending on the customer’s preference. There are two different diesel models to choose from. The first one comes in two different power levels, the 2500 and the 3500, and it has 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque.

The top-of-the-line 12.3-inch touchscreen found in the Ram can only be matched by the substantially more expensive premium systems offered by Mercedes and Audi. In addition to this, it boasts a touchscreen measuring 8.4 inches and costs less. Both provide you speedy access to your connected smartphone as well as the ability to give orders using your voice. The smartphone connection for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto works faultlessly, and there is an adequate number of USB ports. Those who are willing to spend a little bit extra for great sound may get their hands on a premium audio system that has 17 excellent speakers.

Storage | Because of the wide variety of trim levels and cab configurations available for the Ram, much like those for other trucks, the quality and quantity of the inside materials, as well as the number of passenger seats and technological features, may vary substantially. There is the standard single cab, the capacious four-door Crew Cab, and the enormous Mega Cab as choices for the vehicle’s cab configuration.

In spite of the fact that the interiors of heavy-duty trucks manufactured by Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC are just as spacious and luxurious as one another, the Ram offers the most impressive cabin in the segment. It has details that are on par with those found in luxury automobiles, incredible comfort, a sleek and contemporary design, and premium materials in the upper trim levels. A hand-branded Longhorn insignia is included in the most luxurious version of the Longhorn trim, which also has striped wood and gold trim on the dash, doors, and instruments.

Standard safety features include adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, automated emergency braking, monitoring for blind spots, and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Fuel Economy | The EPA does not conduct fuel economy tests on commercial vehicles like the Ram 2500 that have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 8,500 pounds. Even though we have only driven one of these enormous Rams—a 3500 with the Cummins HO engine, four-wheel drive, Mega Cab, and dual-rear-wheel axle—it achieved 16 miles per gallon on a real-world fuel-economy route that was 75 miles per hour.
