4.7/5Overall Score

The 2022 Honda Odyssey is an excellent travel companion for any family, which is why we included it on our list of Editors' Choice vehicles. Whether you need to transport a soccer team or a cargo of building goods, its cabin is roomy and gives lots of versatility. Its smooth and effective V-6 engine is quiet when cruising and strong enough for passing for situations where long-distance travel is on the agenda. All versions include a variety of driver-assistance systems that add an additional layer of security between the Odyssey's priceless cargo and any mayhem that may be developing in an adjacent lane. Technological features are many. These are excellent qualities for any family car, but the Odyssey isn't the only one to provide them; rivals like the Chrysler Pacifica and the Toyota Sienna are hot on its heels and merit consideration.

2022 Honda Odyssey, The Odyssey’s engine is a darling that demands no concessions since it is quick, effective, and well-polished. From behind the wheel, it’s simple to forget you’re driving a three-row van thanks to the Odyssey’s sharp direction changes. Although there is minimal effort and direct steering, greater road input would be appreciated. The Odyssey is the best-driving minivan, and its agility makes it adept in bends and simple to drive on small roads. Driving fanatics won’t gush, though; after all, it is still a minivan. The standard 19-inch wheels on our Elite test van may have contributed to its less compliant ride than those on our long-term Pacifica.

The EPA rates the Odyssey at 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the interstate. Our test vehicle fared better than its EPA estimate during real-world highway testing, returning 30 mpg. Our long-term Pacifica got 33 mpg, for comparison.

A minivan’s principal function is to transport people and goods between far locations, and the Odyssey excels at this task. The seats in its second row are far comfier than those in the Pacifica, and its third row is among the roomiest in the class. Multiple configurations are possible because of Honda’s innovative second-row Magic Slide seats, which are standard on EX grades and above. The Odyssey is a family-friendly transporter thanks to its quietest-in-class interior and innovative technology, such as an in-cabin camera that lets you keep an eye on the children in the second and third rows.

Although there is plenty of room for moving stuff because to its square form and low load floor, other competitors accomplish it more efficiently. The two outside seats, which weigh 68 pounds apiece, must be removed from the second row by hand. Once taken out, the optional Magic Slide seat mechanism stays on the floor and makes it difficult to carry items. In our tests, the Odyssey carried one less carry-on luggage than the Pacifica, even with the third row of seats folded and the second row removed.

All Odysseys receive an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system dubbed Display Audio, with the exception of the lowest LX grade. The software enables customization of the menu design and smartphone communication via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in addition to Bluetooth. A rear-seat entertainment system with integrated streaming applications is a standard feature on both the Touring and Elite models.
