4.8/5Overall Score

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a midsize premium SUV that will debut in 2022. In Land Rover's portfolio, it sits between the full-size Range Rover and the smaller, sleeker Range Rover Evoque. Although the current-generation Range Rover Sport was introduced in 2014, Land Rover has made enough incremental upgrades to keep up with the competition. For 2022, there are a few important modifications, the most notable of which are the engine options. Because of part shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the turbocharged diesel V6 is no longer available, and the plug-in hybrid option has been dropped until 2022.

Pros
  • Comfortable and luxurious cabin
  • Sporty handling and acceleration
  • Impressive off-road capabilities
Cons
  • Modest cargo capacity for the class

In the market, the Range Rover Sport has stiff competition. The Audi Q8, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Porsche Cayenne are among our favorite midsize luxury SUVs. In terms of comfort and technology features, the Range Rover Sport is a step or two below its competitors. It’s also pricier, though you do get respectable off-road capability as part of the package. Overall, the Range Rover Sport isn’t our favorite midsize SUV, but it does have a certain allure that’s hard to match.

Our recommends which Range Rover Sport.

The HSE Silver Edition, in our opinion, is the best of the lot. It comes with more standard features than the base SE while remaining affordable. You’ll probably want to go for the Drive Pro Pack, which includes advanced driver aids like traffic-adaptive cruise control.

Models of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport

SE, HSE Silver Edition, HST, HSE Dynamic, Autobiography, SVR, and SVR Carbon Edition are the seven trim levels available for the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The engine lineup for 2022 has been reduced. The diesel engine and the plug-in hybrid powertrain are no longer available from Land Rover. The only engines left are the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and the supercharged 5.0-liter V8. Both come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive as standard.

SE

It all starts with:

  • 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine (355 horsepower, 365 lb-ft)
  • 19-inch rims
  • Headlights with LEDs
  • Liftgate with power
  • Push-button start and proximity keyless entry
  • Front seats with power adjustments
  • Automatic climate control in two zones
  • Panel of digital instruments
  • Infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen
  • Smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Each Range Rover Sport additionally includes:
  • Assist with lane keeping (steers the Range Rover Sport back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Sensors for parking (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Mitigation of forward collisions (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Silver HSE Edition
  • Gains a slew of new capabilities, including:
  • 21-inch rims
  • Roof-mounted panoramic sunroof
  • Front seats with power adjustments
  • Front seats that are heated and ventilated
  • Rear chairs with heating
  • Steering wheel with heat
  • Refrigerator with front console
  • Automatic climate control in four zones
  • Ionizer in the cabin
  • Meridian audio system with 19 speakers
  • Rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitor (warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
  • Attention is required by the driver (issues an alert if sensors determine you are becoming fatigued)
  • Surround-view surveillance system (gives you a top-down view of the Range Rover Sport and its surroundings for tight parking situations)

HST

The HST has more features than the HSE Silver Edition, including:

  • 395 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque have been added to the engine.
  • Suspension that adapts (enhances ride comfort and handling)
  • Roof in contrasting black
  • Exterior black trim
  • Interior aluminum trim
  • Upholstery in leather and simulated suede
  • Dynamic HSE
  • It has a V8 engine and features that are similar to those of the SE trim. It also contains:
  • 5.0-liter V8 supercharged (518 hp, 461 lb-ft)
  • Air suspension (allows the vehicle’s ride height to be adjusted)
  • 21-inch rims
  • Seats with power adjustments
  • Roof-mounted panoramic sunroof
  • Meridian audio system with 13 speakers
  • Extra leather trimming
  • Rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitor
  • Attention is required by the driver.
  • Autobiography
  • The Autobiography is the most luxurious trim available on the Range Rover Sport, with just about everything listed above as standard, plus:
  • Front seats can be adjusted even more.
  • Doors that softly close (catch as they close and gently pull shut)
  • Meridian audio system with 19 speakers

SVR

  • The SVR is essentially a sportier version of the Autobiography, with the following features:
  • Supercharged V8 with more power (575 hp, 516 lb-ft)
  • Air suspension tuned for sport
  • Upgraded braking system
  • Sport front seats
  • Steering wheel for sport
  • Carbon Edition SVR
  • While Land Rover has a separate trim for this, it’s more of a package for the standard SVR. Improvements include:
  • Gloss black 22-inch wheels
  • Carbon-fiber hood exposed
  • Engine cover made of carbon fiber
  • Interior and exterior carbon fiber trim
  • A variety of options are available for the Range Rover Sport. Some examples include:
  • Pro Pack for Drive
  • Monitor for blindspots (SE trim only)
  • Cruise control that adapts (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front and can also react to traffic signs and set speed)
  • Frontal collision mitigation system has been upgraded.

  • Extra driving modes
  • Case for low-range transfer
  • 23-speaker Meridian surround sound system
  • Ionizer in the cabin
  • Heads-up display (HUD) (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)
