4.7/5Overall Score

When the letters M and 3 appear combined on a model badge, the driver can expect a fantastic ride, and the 2022 BMW M3 sedan is no exception. Sure, its overdone, huge grille may be mocked, but when you row its delightful manual transmission or pursue its slick six-cylinder to the redline, the stylistic flaws fade away. Because rear-wheel drive and a stick shift are required, the base 473-hp M3 is the purist's M3. If faster lap times are more essential, the Competition model comes with a 503 horsepower twin-turbo straight-six engine and a track-tuned chassis. It's only available with an automatic transmission, but it's the only way to have all-wheel drive. After the track day, the enraged Bimmer may be transformed back into a calm daily driver. Regrettably, its cluttered digital instruments and unnecessary drive-mode modifications might put a damper on the atmosphere.

  • It's difficult to love front-end style.

The major news for the BMW M3 2022 is that for the first time in M3 history, the xDrive all-wheel-drive system will be offered this year, although only on the automatic M3 Competition variant. The system has three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport (which delivers a higher proportion of torque to the rear wheels for that signature rear-biased handling balance), and 2WD (which transmits all power to the back wheels alone for appropriate burnouts). To fit the AWD hardware, the whole front axle geometry, steering, and oiling system are modified.
