Honda Civic 2022, the Civic is completely rebuilt, with a new interior and exterior. The 2022 Civic will be available in sedan and hatchback body variants, much as the previous generation car.
Despite the fact that the new Civic has been completely revamped, Honda has opted to keep the engine options from the previous generation. The base engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, while the upgrade engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. The new Civic is only available in front-wheel drive. Unfortunately, the previous generation Civic sedan’s manual gearbox has been discontinued for 2022, leaving only a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) as an option; a six-speed manual is still available on the hatchback variant.
Our turbocharged Touring sedan took 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph on our test track, which is somewhat slower than the previous generation Civic. We tried a manual Sport Touring hatchback, which took 7.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. Thankfully, the nimble handling, intuitive steering, and well-balanced ride we loved in the previous generation model are all present and correct here. Both the sporty Si and the high-performance Type-R will be available with a manual transmission; we’ll look at both versions individually.
According to the EPA, the most fuel-efficient Civic is the mid-level EX, which gets 33 mpg in the city, 42 mpg on the highway, and 36 mpg combined. When we have a chance, we’ll put the 2022 Civic through its paces on our 75-mph interstate fuel-economy route and report back.
Driver-assistance systems such as automatic emergency braking with pedestrian recognition and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist will be standard. Visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites for further information on the Civic’s crash-test results. The following are important safety features:
- Automatic emergency braking is standard.
- Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist is standard.
- Adaptive cruise control is standard.
