Rally-inspired sport compact vehicles are on the point of extinction, but the new 2022 Subaru WRX wants to reinvigorate enthusiasm for this enthusiast-focused type. With the adoption of a new architecture targeted at better driving characteristics as well as the addition of more powerful 271-hp turbocharged flat-four engine, the 2018 WRX promises to be an upgrade over the previous iteration. Its modern interior design and 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system also now better correlate with newer rivals that include the Hyundai Elantra N and the VW Golf GTI and Jetta GLI. Of course, among this bunch, only the WRX boasts all-wheel drive. Without the horsepower to take with the 315-hp VW Golf R, Subaru has indicated there won't be a gasoline-powered STI model this time around, but the famed WRX STI has a future as a performance-oriented EV. The business hasn't commented on when that electrified STI may come to production though. Until then, the 2022 WRX and its daring exterior give aficionados something quick and fresh to be excited about.

How does the WRX perform on the road?

2022 Subaru WRX, Although it is not as speedy as some of its competitors, driving the WRX is nevertheless a lot of fun. When we put a WRX with a manual transmission through its paces at the Edmunds test track, it reached 60 miles per hour in 6.0 seconds. That is a respectable rate of speed, although one that can only be attained by exploitative beginning procedures. Our test driver noted: “To tell you the truth, I was afraid that I had wrecked this automobile when I was attempting to get it started. The jolt to the driveline that you get when you let go of the clutch is so intense and abrupt that at first I believed there was a heap of scrap metal on the ground. Even with the brand new engine, there is a noticeable degree of turbo lag below roughly 3,000 revolutions per minute. Therefore, in order to get the optimal launch, it is necessary to release the clutch at around 5,000 revolutions per minute.” We have not yet put the WRX with the automatic transmission through its paces.

The WRX demonstrates its full potential while accelerating quickly from turn to turn along a winding route. A fantastic, exhilarating driving experience can be had because to this vehicle’s potent power in the middle range of its rev range, its all-wheel-drive traction, its composed suspension, and its precise steering.

The WRX’s brakes, unfortunately, do not provide the level of responsiveness or stopping confidence that we would expect from them. For something as athletic as this, the pedal has an unusually gentle feel. On the other hand, the WRX was able to come to a halt from sixty miles per hour in just one hundred and ten feet, which is a decent distance for the category.

The cabin of the WRX is very similar to that of other recent Subaru models, with the exception that it has been spruced up with elements that look like carbon fiber and red contrast stitching. In the driver’s compartment, you will find a set of analog instruments in addition to a steering wheel with a wide rim and a level bottom. The top-tier GT trim comes standard with a Recaro front seat that is strongly bolstered and coated in microsuede. The back seat, which folds down in a 60/40 configuration, provides access to the trunk from within the vehicle.
