2023 BMW Alpina XB7

2023 BMW Alpina XB7, the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8’s output is increased to 630 horsepower. This vehicle also gets the same front-end upgrades as less expensive X7s.
According to BMW, the XB7 can reach 180 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
Along with an illuminated gear selector and an Alpina steering wheel with blue and green stitching, the XB7’s interior is opulent. The pricing range begins at $145,995.

BMW’s biggest SUV, the X7, underwent a mid-cycle upgrade earlier this year that includes more potent and effective engines as well as a new front end with squintier headlamps sandwiching the huge front grille. In order to provide the 2023 Alpina XB7 the same stylistic enhancements and the most potent engine in the X7 family, BMW has now introduced the most pricey and high-performance version of the X7.

The XB7 still uses the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 from the X7 M60i, but it now produces 630 horsepower rather of the 612 horsepower of the previous model. 590 pound-feet of torque is maintained, which is 37 pound-feet more than the M60i. According to BMW, the torque peak occurs between 1800 and 5600 rpm. The 48-volt hybrid assistance in the most recent X7 increases the engine’s responsiveness and efficiency, while the 4.4-liter Alpina engine gets a new cooling system.

The XB7 sports an electronic limited-slip differential on the back axle and all-wheel drive. Its eight-speed automated gearbox is connected to a 48-volt starter-generator. BMW claims that the XB7 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and finish the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds despite having a curb weight of over 6000 pounds. The XB7’s top speed is predicted to increase to 180 mph with the optional performance tire combination and 21-inch wheels.

The XB7’s air suspension can boost the SUV’s ride height by 1.6 inches when traveling at speeds under 19 mph thanks to a unique Alpina damper system. In Sport mode and at speeds above 100 mph, the XB7 is lowered by 0.8 inches; in Sport+ mode and at speeds over 155 mph, it is lowered by 1.6 inches. We’re unsure of where American Alpina owners would travel in their enormous SUV at these speeds, though.

In order to boost stiffness, BMW claims that the Alpina now features stronger torsion struts. The electromechanical anti-roll bars and stiffer rear axle bushings of the M60i, meanwhile, are said to reduce body roll. Rear-wheel steering is another feature of the M60i, and it can turn the back wheels a maximum of 2.3 degrees in either direction. Brembo four-piston fixed calipers clamping into 15.5-inch front discs and floating calipers onto 15.7-inch rear discs supply the braking force. The word “Alpina” is painted in white across the blue calipers.

There are two different wheel options for the XB7. All-season or summer tires with a 285 width can be placed on any one of the four sides of 21-inch Dynamic wheels. Pirelli summer tires are positioned on the standard 20-spoke, 23-inch Classic wheels in a staggered layout with 285- and 325-width tires up front and back. The XB7 also gets an updated front bumper with sculpted air intakes and a back bumper that is body color.

The XB7 has a distinctive Lavalina leather-wrapped steering wheel with blue and green stitching, a glass Alpina infotainment control dial, a blue-lit gear selector, illuminated door sills, and other features. The three trim options are Myrtle Luxury Wood, Piano Lacquer, or Natural Walnut Anthracite. Alpina blue changes to Alpina green in Sport or Sport+ settings to highlight the gauge clusters.

Delivery of the $145,995 Alpina XB7 is expected to start in early 2023.
