2024 Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy’s mid-size SUV gets an electric facelift and will come in a range of powertrain configurations, including the first all-electric SS performance model.
On the Ultium chassis, the Chevrolet Blazer EV makes its premiere in 2024, with front-, rear-, and all-wheel drive options.
Chevy claims that the SS performance version’s 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque allow it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than four seconds. The Blazer EV will start at $44,995 while the Blazer SS will cost $65,995. Both vehicles have a range of 247 to 320 miles.
The Chevrolet Blazer has evolved since its release in 1969. The Blazer changed from a full-size, truck-based two-door known as the K5 to a smaller SUV body design based on the S-10 pickup in the middle of the 1980s. An LS V-8-powered SS model followed the mid-size TrailBlazer of the early 2000s until the Blazer brand resurfaced on a sporty crossover in 2019. In addition to reviving the SS logo on a 557-hp performance version, Chevy is now repurposing the brand for an all-new electric SUV with a range of up to 320 miles for the 2024 model year.
Four trim levels—1LT, 2LT, RS, and SS—and a dizzying array of powertrain choices are offered for the Blazer EV. Front-wheel drive is standard on the 1LT, 2LT, and RS models. The 1LT can go an estimated 247 miles on a single charge. The 2LT and RS both come with all-wheel drive, and the 2LT’s maximum range, which varies according on battery size, is 293 miles. With the right battery and motor, the RS will also be available with rear-wheel drive and have a range of up to 320 miles.
Chevy has not specified the size of the battery packs for the Blazer EV, which is based on the Ultium platform from General Motors. According to Chevy, the Blazer EV will be able to charge at up to 190 kW when connected to a DC fast charger, giving it 78 miles of range in 10 minutes.
Driving Mode for Sports
With 557 horsepower and 648 pound-feet of torque, the top-of-the-line Blazer SS is the first electric Chevrolet to carry the Super Sport badge. The SS has all-wheel drive as standard, and according to Chevy, the crossover can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds in Wide Open Watts, or WOW. The SS will have independent front and rear suspension, front Brembo brakes, and other Blazer EV features. The anticipated range of this sportiest model is 290 miles.
Each trim level has a unique front fascia, with the LT having a body-color grille that has been blanked out, a full-width LED light bar, and sporty side skirts. The SS gets a bolder black roof and mask with a column of strakes behind the headlights. The LT’s wheels are 19 inches, the RS’s are 21 inches, and the SS’s are 22 inches. When the Blazer is plugged in, the LED light bar, which has an illuminated Chevy symbol, plays lighting sequences as the driver approaches or leaves the car and also shows the charge level.
The centerpiece of the cabin is a 17.7-inch touchscreen with an 11-inch digital gauge cluster. The RS and SS variants add a flat-bottom steering wheel, ambient lighting, and many red accents to the dashboard’s sleek, futuristic design, which has air vents that resemble turbines. Both the RS and SS offer heated and ventilated front seats, and the RS may be ordered with the SS’s standard heated rear seats. We were charmed by the sleek appearance during our brief time in a pre-production vehicle, but we were quite unimpressed by the lack of headroom in the second row.
The automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, front pedestrian detection and stopping, and optional reverse automated braking and Advanced Park Assist are also standard on the Blazer EV. Additionally included is GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system, and owners may use the MyChevy app to plan routes to charging stations.
A Police Car Version is Coming
Chevy also promised to release a Blazer EV Police Pursuit Vehicle version. The largest battery will be found in the PPV, which will be based on the SS, and it will be offered with rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. The SS model’s Brembo front brakes and an interior designed especially for police officers will also be included in the PPV.
When they go on sale next summer, the 2LT and RS will be the first Blazer EVs to arrive in dealer showrooms. The 2LT will cost $47,595 to purchase, the RS $51,995, and the SS will be available in 2023 for $65,995. In the first quarter of 2024, the 1LT and PPV will be offered, with the 1LT starting at $44,995. The Blazer EV and the current gasoline-powered Blazer will be produced at the same Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, factory, and are anticipated to live together for the foreseeable future.
