The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Has Been Revealed, And It Looks Like the Future

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Has Been Revealed, And It Looks Like the Future

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6, Future EV architecture is hinted at in the Hyundai Prophecy concept car. With the new Ioniq 6 electric car, which goes on sale next year, do its predictions come true?

The Ioniq 6 electric car from Hyundai has debuted its first photos for 2024. The Ioniq 6, Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60 will all use the E-GMP platform together with the Ioniq 6. The Ioniq 6 will go on sale in the United States as a 2024 model year vehicle, with production starting in 2023. A few years ago, Hyundai foresaw its future: svelte and electrified, with design cues taken from both traditional and contemporary influence. That was the concept behind the March 2020 release of the Prophecy. In augury, there is always room for interpretation. However, the Ioniq 6, the concept car’s commercial counterpart, is a stylish sedan that obviously combines traditional and modern design elements.

The Ioniq 6 is the successor to the 8-bit SUV and Toyota Prius-like Ioniq. The Ioniq 5 and the Prophecy concept both garnered favorable reviews, so the Ioniq 6 has a lot to live up to. All Ioniq models are supported by the Hyundai E-GMP dedicated electric platform, which is also used by the Kia EV6 and the Genesis GV60. Because the vision was transformed into a production-ready and street-legal platform, the Ioniq 6 rides a little higher than the Prophecy concept.

To give the Ioniq 6 a distinctive look, Hyundai’s designers claimed to have imitated the streamlined automobiles of the 1930s. There are hints of the Taycan and Model 3 in the front end, and the rear spoiler rises like a ducktail Porsche 911, suggesting that Tesla and Porsche are contemporary influences. As promised, it combines classic and modern elements.

SangYup Lee, head of design at Hyundai, talked about the rewards and difficulties of combining brand identity with cutting-edge technology.

Lee has created everything from Chevrolet Camaros and Corvettes to the Bentley Continental GT. After graduating from Pasadena, California’s ArtCenter College of Design, he started his career in design 27 years after leaving South Korea. He returned to South Korea in 2016 to oversee the design of Hyundai and Genesis after working with fifteen brands and eight nations. With the support of Luc Donckerwolke, chief creative officer of Genesis and Ioniq, and Lee, Hyundai and Genesis are able to stand out in both the mainstream and luxury markets.

We questioned Lee, who frequently oversees multiple projects at once, on how he approaches a cheap Hyundai car vs a premium Genesis. He asserts that Hyundai treats its cars like chess pieces. He asserts that despite their dissimilar movements and appearances, the “king, queen, bishop, and knight” function as a cohesive unit. Similar to Russian nesting dolls, many OEMs create a design and then offer it in several sizes, but Lee claims Hyundai takes into account the lifestyles of its customers: “A large family has different needs than Gen Z.” Lee also wants to change the appearance.

The Ioniq line has thus far fulfilled its retro-futurist objective. The Ioniq 6 feels quite modern and contemporary. Simple yet fashionable décor is used. There won’t be any chrome, faux chrome, or frilly edges. Black piano doesn’t exist. To put it briefly, it’s simple and easy. When designing the inside, Lee and the crew took into account both the demand for better technology and its usefulness. He observes that although touchscreens are becoming more common, they can be dangerous when you’re moving. “Therefore, we must achieve the right balance. Future voice activation will be more prevalent, but we are currently in the transitional phase. If it is safer, buttons will be present.”

Backseat passengers benefit from the Ioniq 6’s generous length. Taller people will have enough of room for their legs in the large area. This “creates a love-seat atmosphere,” according to Lee.

Ioniq is currently the most adventurous model the firm offers, if Hyundai is the mainstream and Genesis is the luxury.
