Toyota bZ4X has already been recalled due to wheel failure

Toyota bZ4X has already been recalled due to wheel failure, The Subaru Solterra is also affected by the same issue. You might want to think again if you’re about to test drive or buy a Toyota bZ4X. In theory, you ought should presumably wait. All bZ4Xs covered by the recall should not be driven, according to a recall notice released by Toyota today. The wheels may almost literally come off during sharp turns or hard braking due to an issue with the lug nuts connecting the wheel to the hub. Yes, this problem also affects the Subaru Solterra, an EV related to the Toyota.

Toyota only started offering the bZ4X this year, yet now there is a recall on it. The automaker’s first mass-produced EV is experiencing wheel failure, according to a voluntary safety recall.

Owners who are affected have already received warnings via email, phone calls, and first-class mail and have been told not to use their vehicles.

The recall also applies to the Subaru Solterra, which was created and produced with the Toyota bZ4X. However, no Subaru owners are impacted by the recall because no Solterra units have been delivered to dealers or retailers.

Investigations into the cause of the issue continue. In contrast, Toyota has received three reports of wheels coming off, two from the United States and one from Taiwan. In all three instances, the hub nuts on a wheel loosened to the point that the wheel came apart from the car, as was the case in two of the reported incidents. After verifying and replicating the fault through its own tests, Toyota issued a voluntary safety recall.

The problem’s solution is still being developed. Affected owners won’t have to pay for the repairs when they are delivered as part of their auto warranties.

661 Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X cars manufactured between March 30 and April 21, 2022 are included in the recall. (for the Solterra, till June 3).

Toyota has not yet determined which specific units are affected, despite documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showing that under 1% of the 661 vehicles are affected. The “1 percent” item in the documents suggests “unknown,” the NHTSA noted.

The starting price of the 2023 Toyota bZ4X is $43,215, while the starting price of the 2023 Subaru Solterra is $46,220.

Only 260 of the 2,700 bZ4Xs produced at the Japanese plant, according to Toyota, are headed for the United States, while 20 are destined for Canada. Europe (2,200) and Japan received the remaining funds (110). 2,600 Solterras are affected, according to Subaru, but the automaker does not say where they were or will be sold; it just states that none of them were built for any customers who were on the waiting list.

Subaru sent the following comment in response to our request for further information: “Additionally, 403 Subaru Solterras are subject to this recall. Subaru Solterras are being stored at their different locations; customers do not own any of them. There haven’t been any accidents involving the Subaru Solterra in this case.” We also got in touch with the NHTSA, who said they had the notice of Toyota’s recall and will post it “soon” on their website.
